Friday, June 5, 2020

Liam and I decided we wanted a little weekend getaway- it was loooong over due. So we popped on over to one of my favorite cities- EVER! Charleston! Caleb was going to visit one of his friends in Texas and I thought- we should go somewhere too. I am going to bring you all along with us on a weekend in Charleston, SC! All the food, shopping, beaches and more. It’s a must-visit city!

First we headed to Sullivan’s Island- there is lots of food, ice cream, etc there and the beaches are super family friendly! I also like going there first because it’s right off 26 (if you’re driving) so you just keep going until you get there pretty much!

Since we didn’t get here until 2:30ish- we stayed on the beach all day until it was time to come in and get ready for dinner! Then we headed off to eat at one of my favorites- Fleet Landing! It sits right on the water downtown – literally a perfect view! My got to is fried shrimp and a Charleston sunset (YUMMM).

SATURDAY

On Saturday- we had quite an early start- thanks LIAM! Lol. Because of the virus, pretty much the only thing open was the beach and Starbucks. . . so coffee and a morning walk (at 6 AM) it was! By that time Liam was SUPER tired so we went back to the house for a quick nap and then we were and up ready to go again!

Our next stop was coffee & muffins at Vintage Coffee! The cutest little place in Mount Pleasant! And then of course, back to the beach (Isle of Palms this time!)

After playing on the beach for a bit, Liam and I were both starving- so we decided to eat some Taco’s at Papi’s on IOP!

After that, we had another nap and then off to do some shopping down on King Street! Shortly after it started DOWNPOURING and I hadn’t made reservations anywhere yet so it was sort of a mess. The biggest part traveling alone is just to go with the flow! So we grabbed a quick dinner and then off to bed.

SUNDAY

Sunday means brunch, am I right?! We went to the beach for just a minute and then headed for some yummy food! Of course, it rained- so we didn’t stay for much longer downtown after that but it was the perfect way to end our trip!

TIPS FOR TRAVELING ALONE W/ KIDS

  1. Be aware : I just have to say this because people always ask- isn’t it dangerous, aren’t you worried XYZ. But I have traveled alone for years- like since I graduated high school and I’ve learned A LOT from those experiences from just observing etc. I am always super aware of where I am and whats going on around me. I don’t go places away from others- hiking etc.
  2. PATIENCE : I can’t say this enough. Even if you’re a single mom or used to being alone. Being in a different place and just the whole traveling thing can be stressful. Accept the fact that your kid is going to act up and not be perfect at some point and just prepare yourself to meet those moments with grace- a lot of it. That way you don’t ruin your trip!
  3. Pack light- but prepared: If you have younger children, I know it may seem like you NEED to bring 75 million things with you- but it will be so much easier if you just bring ONLY what you really need.
  4. Plan ahead: If you’re going somewhere busy- reservations are a MUST. Sitting and waiting for 15-20 minutes might not seem like a long time, but trust me, you’ll be happy you did when you don’t have to fight a hungry munchkin for that long. I usually put together a ROUGH schedule- mainly so I can plan out in my head but it’s OKAY to also not stick to it! Kids and the weather are super unpredictable- it’s okay to change plans!

I put together two lists for you all to save if you’re headed that way to refer back to! Travel safe!
