How to Maintain Healthy Hair + My Routine

Wednesday, August 11, 2021

Finally sharing how to maintain healthy hair + my routine! I get a heavy highlight every 8-9 weeks so I try really hard to take care of my hair in between appointments so that it doesn’t get super damaged. I also experienced postpartum hair loss after I stopped breastfeeding Liam, and it seems like I already am having some of the loss with Beaux! So these are my tips and tricks- hacks if you will- on how to maintain healthy hair!

Styling for Healthy Hair. . .

Because I have extensions, it would be almost impossible to use absolutely no heat on my hair. So there are ways to get around that, and use the least amount of heat as possible. First and foremost, I always let my hair air dry. The only exception is when I get my hair done! I find that it’s one way to cut out heavy heat that isn’t 100% necessary. When I get out of the shower, I finger comb, add leave in conditioner, and hair oil (I’ll link what I use below) and just let it air dry!

Once my hair is completely dry (sitting outside if you can will speed up this process too) I spray with my heat protectant/styling spray and curl. Full curling tutorial here! These curls last me days- usually about 4-5 if not longer! I don’t touch it up unless I absolutely have to. To make it last a few days longer, the last couple of days I’ll do braids or a pony tail to extend washing as well. Those natural hair oils are the best things for your hair!

Washing Routine for Healthy Hair. . .

I only wash my hair once a week- or longer if possible. Sometimes that’s harder in the Summer with swimming, vacation, sweating- but I try to extend it as long as I can. Before washing my hair- I do a mask with this Olaplex treatment on damaged spots and my ends. Then I cover the rest with this conditioning treatment!

** PRO TIP** if you need help extending your wash and dry shampoo isn’t enough- try just rinsing with water in the shower- it may help rinse out some of the excess oil/etc. and allow a few more days- especially if you have curly hair!
