I’ve been asked this on multiple occasions. How much do I really spend on clothes as a blogger? I don’t think it’s with mal intent- just honest curiosity or as a blogger starting out wondering maybe how much they should spend! I can stop you right there and tell you $0. Recreating outfits from clothes you already have makes just as good content. Especially in the beginning – even if you were linking a ton of clothes, chances are you wouldn’t be selling A LOT yet- at least I wasn’t when I started out!

SPOILER ALERT : I don’t have a set budget necessarily! This is for a couple of reasons- depending on the month- I may have been gifted a certain amount of clothing from different boutiques and stores. So naturally I incorporate SOME of those into my daily outfits. The second reason is because as mentioned above, I try and push myself to recreate some outfits using clothes I already have. I want to make my outfits attainable for you all. Of course I wish I could buy every single piece of clothing that I want- I mean, wouldn’t we all? But the reality is that’s not the case for a large majority of people!
So far this month, I’ve spent around $200. Try on’s tend to be the more expensive costs right now. Usually retailers that I can walk into and try on a bunch of things normally save a little bit of money, because I don’t always purchase everything at once. However, since quarantine started, I’ve had to order online. Which has resulted in less items per try on sadly! But I just want to allow myself to be able to buy from different stores and share lots of great finds with you guys!
About half of my outfits- maybe more- are made up of or have items that I already own. I mean a large majority of purchases are things you wear more than once- jeans, shorts, basic tees, etc. Which you don’t think about but you can also wear multiple ways. So you have multiple outfits off of certain pieces.
Another thing I do to sort of off set the cost of constantly purchasing new items, is get rid of the old ones. Which is kind of tricky sometimes. I have pieces that I am attached to or just really really love, BUT they’re out of stock or from like 3 seasons ago. So of course I don’t get rid of everything. That skirt I can’t fit into anymore- sell it. I try to make it a rule of thumb that every time something comes in, something else goes out. I sell things usually on Poshmark or my closet page.
Okay, so to answer the original question! I usually average around $300 or so a month just on clothes. Again, this doesn’t count the clothes I’m constantly selling. So really the spend amount is a bit less than that. Some months it’s more and some it’s way less. It all just varies! I really don’t think that’s a super unusual amount to spend on clothes- for someone who isn’t a blogger either! I have friends that spend wayyyy more than that and they AREN’T bloggers! So I hope that answered your question of “how much do I really spend on clothes?” ! Was that more or less than what you thought?!
